Helped us recover from a major fish kill
As a pond owner, experiencing a major fish kill in the Summer is devastating. We had one here in Alabama and I immediately needed to begin work to help our water restore herself. Natural Waterscapes was there every step of the way.

Amazing transformation
Mere words cannot say enough how fabulous this company is. I had direct contact with staff to trouble shoot all the problems I had with my pond. I spent minimal on products to kill weeds and was amazed at the transformation.

Great product with great help
I called and Danny helped me. I told him I had alligator weed in our pond and asked him what I needed. He told me exactly what to use and how to mix and spray it. Problem solved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expert answers to the most common pond and lake management questions.

The best pond algae treatment depends on the type of algae. For filamentous algae (string algae), copper-based algaecides like chelated copper or copper sulfate are effective. For planktonic algae (green water), aluminum sulfate (alum) treatments that bind phosphorus are a long-term solution. For cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), specialized peroxide-based treatments are safest. In all cases, proper identification is the critical first step — treating the wrong type can waste money and harm your ecosystem. Contact us for a free consultation to help identify your specific algae problem.
Pond aeration works by circulating water from the bottom to the surface, increasing dissolved oxygen levels throughout the water column. Bottom-diffused aeration systems use a shore-mounted compressor to pump air through weighted tubing to diffuser plates on the pond bottom. As air bubbles rise, they carry oxygen-depleted bottom water to the surface where it absorbs oxygen. This destratifies the pond, reduces muck accumulation, improves fish habitat, and helps prevent algae blooms and fish kills. Properly sized aeration is the single most impactful investment for long-term pond health.
Pond muck is the accumulation of organic matter — dead algae, leaves, grass clippings, fish waste, and other debris — that settles on the bottom and decomposes anaerobically (without oxygen). Over time, this creates a thick, smelly layer of black sediment. Contributing factors include nutrient runoff from fertilized lawns, lack of aeration, overfeeding fish, and natural leaf litter. Muck can be reduced through beneficial bacteria treatments, bottom-diffused aeration, and muck-reducing pellets applied directly to problem areas.
Aquatic weed identification starts with understanding three categories: emergent weeds (grow above the waterline, like cattails and phragmites), submersed weeds (grow underwater, like milfoil and hydrilla), and floating weeds (on the surface, like duckweed and water hyacinth). Key features include leaf shape, stem structure, root type, and flower characteristics. Proper ID is essential because herbicide effectiveness varies by species. Visit our aquatic weed identification guide or contact us for expert help.
Aerator sizing depends on pond surface area, maximum depth, and shape. Bottom-diffused systems generally need one diffuser plate per surface acre at the deepest point. Ponds under 1 acre and less than 8 feet deep typically need a single-diffuser system with a 1/4 HP compressor. Ponds 1–3 acres may need 2–3 diffusers with a 1/2 HP compressor. Fountains and surface aerators are sized at approximately 1 HP per surface acre. Contact us for a free aeration assessment based on your specific pond dimensions.
Yes, most pond treatments are safe for fish when applied correctly. The key is proper dosing and timing. Treat in sections (no more than 1/3 of the pond at a time) to prevent oxygen depletion from decaying vegetation. Apply treatments early in the morning when oxygen levels are highest, and avoid treating during extreme heat. Copper-based products require careful dosing in soft water. Aeration during and after treatment significantly reduces fish stress.
